BermudAir Pet Policy
As of August 1, 2024, pets entering the US from a rabies-free or low-risk country can complete a new, simplified CDC Import Permit (please see below).
At BermudAir, we understand that pets are an important part of many families. Our pet policy is designed to ensure a safe, comfortable and responsible travel experience for passengers travelling with their animals while maintaining the safety and well-being of all guests onboard.
We currently accept domestic dogs and cats on BermudAir flights to and from the United States, Canada, Anguilla and Bermuda, provided they meet the applicable breed, size and documentation requirements.
Pets may travel with BermudAir in one of the following ways:
Service Animal (SVAN)
A trained service dog may travel in the cabin with the passenger and is not required to be in a carrier. Service animals must meet the documentation and behavioural requirements outlined under the Air Carrier Access Act (ACAA).
Pet in Cabin (PETC)
Pets travelling in the cabin must remain inside a soft-sided carrier that fits under the seat in front of the passenger for the duration of the flight.
Pet in Hold (AVIH)
Pets travelling in the hold must be transported in an IATA-approved hard-sided crate in a dedicated, temperature-controlled and pressurized compartment beneath the main cabin.
Dogs may travel as service animals, pets in the cabin, or pets in the hold.
Cats may travel as pets in the cabin.
All passengers, regardless of whether they have checked in online, must report to the check-in desk at the airport before going through security.
All customers travelling with pets must sign a BermudAir Pet Transport Indemnity Form before they are allowed to board the aircraft.
Note that check-in staff cannot validate pet documentation. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have the correct documentation before you travel.
To ensure the safety and comfort of all passengers travelling with BermudAir, certain breeds are subject to restrictions in Bermuda, Canada, Anguilla and the USA.
Snub-nosed breeds are permitted in the cabin only and excluded from transport in the hold for safety and security reasons.
Please refer to the list of prohibited and restricted breeds, which restrict full or mixed/cross breeds of any of the following breeds below:
Argentine Mastiff (Dogo Argentino)
Boerboel (South African Mastiff)
Brazilian Mastiff (Fila)
Cane Corso
Neapolitan Mastiff
Presa Canario

Any Cross of the above

Any Cross of the above
Restricted dogs may be imported or acquired once the conditions for their importation and/or keeping have been fulfilled by the importer/new keeper. New acquisitions of these dogs require pre-approval. Dogs of these breeds may be bred only following receipt of a Breeder's permit. More details here.
For international travel from Bermuda to US, Canada and Anguilla, pets must meet a minimum of 6 months. For international travel to Bermuda, pets must be at least 43 weeks old, which is approximately 10 months.
Please ensure all pets have met their vaccination requirements for travel to the US, Canada, Anguilla or Bermuda. Consulting with a veterinarian is highly advised.
There is no weight limit for service animals or pets travelling in the cabin, provided the animal can travel safely inside an approved carrier.
For pets travelling in the hold, the maximum combined weight of the pet and crate must not exceed 100 lbs (45 kg).
Depending on your pet's mode of transport, there are certain carrier requirements to consider.
Service animals do not need to be transported in a carrier/crate when travelling with the passenger in the cabin.
Pets in the cabin must be transported in a soft-sided carrier. The maximum size of the carrier should have dimensions of 18" L x 11" W x 11" H (45cm L x 27cm W x 27cm H), and should be ventilated on at least three sides (preferably four sides), with the majority of the ventilation on the upper part of the carrier.
Dogs in the hold must be transported in a hard-sided, IATA-compliant crate/kennel. The maximum size of the crate/kennel should have dimensions of 40” L x 27” W x 30” H (101cm L x 68cm W x 76cm H).
We highly recommend including a drinking water module in your dog's hold crate.
Your pet should be able to comfortably stand, sit and lie down in the carrier, so please be sure to travel with a carrier that is best suited for your pet's comfort. Because when your pet is comfortable, then you can travel more at ease.
For any questions about pet carrier requirements, refer to the IATA standards.
To ensure the safety and comfort of all passengers and animals onboard, BermudAir limits the number of pets permitted on each flight.
One service dog is permitted per passenger.
Up to four soft-sided pet carriers are permitted in the cabin per flight.
In hold, we allow 1 dog crate or kennel per flight to ensure safety and comfort.
Service animals travel free of charge.
Pets travelling in the cabin are charged $95 USD / $129 CAD per pet, each way.
Pets travelling in the hold are charged $400 USD / $550 CAD per pet, each way.
While we at BermudAir understand the importance of travelling with pets, any liabilities for losses incurred owing to missing health and vaccination certificates, permits and other documentation needed for animals remains the responsibility of our guests. Should BermudAir bear the costs, fines, charges, losses and/or liabilities as a result of the missing documentation, guests will be responsible for repaying the airline.
Our refund policy for flight cancellations is designed to accommodate the varying needs of our passengers, depending on the nature of the cancellation and the fare type purchased. Here's a breakdown of our policy:
If BermudAir cancels the flight or makes an involuntary change to the itinerary, BermudAir will make reasonable efforts to accommodate the passenger and their pet on an alternative flight.
If the pet cannot be accommodated on the new flight, BermudAir will either:
re-accommodate the passenger and pet on an alternative flight where possible
provide a full refund of the pet travel service fee.
If BermudAir is unable to provide the pet travel service for operational reasons, the pet service fee will not be charged or will be fully refunded if already paid.
If a passenger voluntarily cancels or changes their flight, refund eligibility for the pet travel service will follow the same rules as the purchased fare family and will be processed as part of the overall booking refund according to the fare rules.
If a passenger chooses to keep their flight but cancels the pet travel service only, the refund for the pet service will be processed according to the following rules:
Economy Light: No refund
Economy Classic: Refunded to the original form of payment
Economy Max: Refunded to the original form of payment
Business Light: Refunded to the original form of payment

We allow one trained and registered service dog per passenger in the cabin to accompany passengers with disabilities. These dogs provide important help to their owners, and we'll do our best to ensure they're comfortable. Only trained service dogs are allowed, and they need the right documents.
Under the Air Carrier Access Act (ACAA) a service animal means a dog, regardless of breed or type, that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of a qualified individual with a disability, including a physical, sensory, psychiatric, intellectual, or other mental disability. Animal species other than dogs, as well as emotional support animals, comfort animals, companionship animals, and service animals in training, are not service animals.
Trained service dogs should have proof that they are service animals. They also need to meet the same requirements as pets for entry into the US or Bermuda.
Passengers must have the health papers and other certifications needed by the country they're going to. If traveling to or from the USA, passengers on flights over 8 hours must fill out the DOT's "U.S. Department of Transportation Service Animal Air Transportation Form" and "U.S. Department of Transportation Service Animal Relief Attestation" forms.
DOT Service Animal Air Transportation Form
DOT Service Animal Relief Attestation Form
Keep in mind that service animals that cause disruptions, such as barking excessively or running around without reason, won't be accepted.
Pets can be booked during the flight booking process on the BermudAir website. When selecting your flight, you will have the option to add a pet to your reservation as part of the booking flow.
If you have already booked your flight, you can also add a pet later through the Extras section by retrieving your existing reservation and selecting the pet travel option, subject to availability.
For detailed conditions, please see our Conditions of Carriage.
EVERY animal arriving into Bermuda must be the subject of an import permit, issued in advance of travel by the Bermuda Department of Environment and Natural Resources. This includes pets, service animals, emotional support animals, resident animals and visiting animals.
Contact the Bermuda Department of Environment and Natural Resources to learn about the import requirements for your animal. Telephone: 441-239-2315; E-mail: animals@gov.bm.
A complete application to import the animal must be submitted to the Bermuda Department of Environment and Natural Resources between 3 and 10 days prior to the animal's planned arrival.
Response time is usually 1-2 business days. Be mindful of weekends and holidays.
The import permit you receive and the original veterinary documents MUST accompany the animal during its travel and be available to Bermuda Customs upon arrival.
***NEW CDC UPDATE***: For dogs that have been only in dog rabies-free or low-risk countries in the 6 months before U.S. entry, this is the only form that is needed.
Complete the form online. A receipt will be emailed to you upon submission of the form. You can print the receipt or show it on your phone. Instructions on how to fill out the form.
The receipt is valid for 6 months from when it’s issued unless the dog visits a high-risk country or a different dog rabies-free or low-risk country during that time. The receipt can be used for multiple entries into the United States as long as the dog has not been in a high-risk country in the past 6 months. Each dog must have its own form. If you are bringing more than one dog to the U.S., you will need to complete a separate form for each dog.
In addition to having a receipt for a CDC Dog Import Form:
Dogs must appear healthy upon arrival.
Dogs must be at least 6 months old at time of entry or return to the U.S.
Dogs must have a microchip that can be detected with a universal scanner to identify them.
If your pet does not meet the above requirements, then to bring your pet back to the US from Bermuda, you will need to follow these requirements:
Health Certificate: Obtain a health certificate issued and signed by a licensed veterinarian within 10-15 days of travel. The certificate should include the owner's name and address, complete identification of the animal (name, breed, sex, and age), and confirmation that your pet is healthy and free from communicable diseases.
Rabies Vaccination: Ensure your pet is vaccinated against rabies between 1 month and 1 year before the trip. You will need to provide proof of vaccination.
Microchip: Your pet should have a microchip for identification purposes. Make sure the microchip is properly registered and functioning.
Dogs arriving at BOS from canine rabies virus high-risk countries must have a valid CDC-issued importation permit, or authentic proof of a still-valid rabies vaccination given to the dog in the US, and a microchip.
Dogs arriving from high-risk countries for canine rabies that do not meet our entry requirements will be denied entry. The CDC does not handle or take possession of the dogs at any time, and does not assist airlines in finding shelters, kennels, or other CBP-approved facilities for the dog’s safekeeping prior to its departure from BOS. Dogs remaining in the airline’s care and custody overnight may be inspected by an animal welfare officer from the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service to ensure the dog was properly housed and cared for up to its departure from BOS. Dogs denied entry cannot travel off Massport premises in a taxi, Uber, Lyft, or other rideshare vehicle. Airlines may wish to consult with the USDA regarding the necessity or desirability of having registered animal handlers on their groundcrew team. Have a plan.
Once a dog is deemed inadmissible, we will contact the airline, which must take custody of the dog immediately, post-enter it to generate an AWB number, and arrange for the dog’s prompt departure from the US.
Please ensure you are familiar with entry requirements: Bringing a Dog into the United States | Bringing an Animal into U.S. | Importation | CDC
To take your pet from Bermuda to Canada, it is advised to complete the form on the Canada Food Inspection Agency to ensure your pet meets the travel requirements.
To travel with a pet to/from Anguilla, you must apply for and obtain an import permit from the Department of Agriculture at least two weeks before travel. You will need to submit an application with your pet's original health certificate, vaccination records (especially rabies), and other required documents, and the pet must be 13 weeks or older and vaccinated against rabies at least one month prior to travel.
Apply for a permit: Submit the Pet Import Permit Application to the Anguilla Department of Agriculture via email at natural.resources@gov.ai, at least two weeks before your travel date.
Obtain a health certificate: Get an original International Health Certificate from a USDA-accredited veterinarian. It must be endorsed by the Government Veterinarian in the country of origin.
Vaccinate your pet: Ensure your pet has a rabies vaccination administered at least 1 month but less than 1 year before travel. The three-year vaccine is acceptable.
Meet other health requirements: Your pet's health certificate must also state that the animal is free of infectious or contagious diseases and parasites, has been treated for parasites, and has not been in contact with any sick animals in the past 60 days.
Note: This information is accurate as of the publication date and is subject to change. Please check with BermudAir for the most up-to-date pet policy before your travel date.
BermudAir reserves the right to refuse transport of any animal that does not meet safety, documentation, health, or carrier requirements.
